The course includes Chaucer's major works, the Parliament of Fowls and The Canterbury Tales, viewed against the background of medieval life and thought. It examines Chaucer's writings from perspectives of Chaucer's depiction of women, Chaucer's sources, and Chaucer as Christian moralist, as allegorist, as fable writer, as humorist.
