Credits: 3 Examines Holocaust, destruction of European Jewry, through testimonies of survivors and narratives of historians. Topics include historical and cultural circumstances that encouraged German anti-Semitism; rise of Nazism; ghettoization of Jews in Poland; Jewish life in ghettos; European Jews under Nazi occupation; Jewish resistance; Christian rescuers; invasion of Russia and mobile killing units; life in hiding and passing, forced labor camps, and concentration camps; responses of United States and world; and reflections on Holocaust today. Also considers eyewitness testimony, memory, narrative, and literature. Prerequisites Undergraduate senior status in sociology, or graduate status.
