Credits: 3 Covers the basic conservation laws of mass, momentum, and energy, and a scaling analysis of the equations of motion and thermodynamics. Balanced flows in the atmosphere are discussed. Concepts of circulation and vorticity; the role of the atmospheric boundary layer in mass, momentum, and energy transfer; synoptic scale motions; and the role of gravity and Rossby waves in controlling the general circulation of the atmosphere are covered.
