Credits: 3 Explores internal controversies and dynamics of mathematics in larger intellectual and social settings. Topics vary but might include differential equations devised for mechanics and astronomy by Euler, Lagrange, and Laplace; foundation of mathematical analysis from Cauchy to Weierstrass; algebras of Galois and Boole; or creation of non-Euclidean geometry and Cantor's transfinite sets. Prerequisites Completion or concurrent enrollment in all other required general education courses, and completion of MATH 290.
