Credits: 3 Cross-Listed with ECE 735 In-depth study of lossy data compression techniques based on vector quantization with application to speech, image, and video signals. Covers vector quantization of both signal's waveform and commonly used parametric statistical models such as the autoregressive model. Topics include scalar quantization, predictive quantization, transform coding, entropy coding, and variations on basic vector quantization such as constrained vector quantization and variable rate vector quantization. Prerequisites ECE 528, or permission of instructor. Hours of Lecture or Seminar per week 3 Hours of Lab or Studio per week 0
