Credits: 2 Principles and operation of modern instrumentation, emphasizing applications to analysis of chemical, biological, and environmental samples. Methods include combined capillary column gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, optical methods, surface analysis methods, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, atomic emission and absorption spectrometry, and electroanalytical methods. With approval of research committee, students choose methods studied. Prerequisites CHEM 321 and 422 or 521, or permission of department.
