Effective Jan 24, 2005 View History Description: Examines the "communist experiment" in the 20th century comparing the Soviet Union and China, the two most significant communist societies. Focuses on the revolutions which gave rise to communist regimes, the effort to create societies that were both modern and socialist/Marxist while giving rise to oppressive totalitarian systems, the international impact of these efforts during the Cold War, and the reform programs that ended the Soviet Union and eroded the distinctively socialist elements of a booming Chinese economy.
