Effective Oct 9, 2008 View History Description: Explores the implications of new communication technologies with regard to democracy, social activism, cultural identity, and social equity in the United States. Democracy cannot be separated from the issue of social identity since throughout our history many groups were excluded from political participation. Explores whether new media like the Internet will increasingly make identity irrelevant, or will create greater fragmentation. (Offered every semester.)
