An introduction to the principles and practices surrounding the cultivation of aquatic and marine plants, fish and invertebrates for bait, food and sport fisheries. Emphasis will be placed on the underlying concepts and how they affect choices of equipment, methods and technology appropriate to the development of a North American aquaculture industry. Laboratories will emphasize hands-on experience with the design and operation of aquaculture species. Field trips will be made to government and private hatcheries and aquaculture operations. Prerequisite: BIOL318
