This course examines the dynamic tension between groups of individuals and collective society. Various distinct populations emerge within an otherwise homogeneous majority. These minority populations practice and attempt to retain their distinct cultural heritage, but are met with resistance. To protect these groups, the right to self-determination is established in international law.
