This course explores the history and development of professional ethics and standards. It also analyzes current moral, ethical and legal controversies in the health services arena, examining personal morals and ethics related to healthcare issues as they coincide with public laws. Students will use topic/article research, case studies and health care system options and analysis to address conflicts and controversies in dealing with patient's access to care; provider's and payor's obligations; patient, provider, payor and other third party rights; relationship between consent and delivery of patient care; as well as organizational policies and legal requirements.
