3 credits. Offered spring. This course is an interdisciplinary examination of the various definitions, causes, and structure and consequences of genocide. We will study some of the major 20th century genocides (Indigenous peoples, Armenia, USSR, Jewish Holocaust,Cambodia, Bosnia/Kosovo, Rwanda and Darfur) using the following conceptual schemes: social death, structured violence, oppression and mass murder.
