3 credits. Offered fall and spring. Survey of Early Christian, Hiberno-Saxon and Byzantine art 300-1200. Examines painting, mosaics, manuscripts illumination and the development of church design in Italy and the Byzantine World. Considers cross-fertilization of Pagan, Christian, Islamic and Barbarian arts in Western Europe in the Early Middle Ages. Prerequisite: GARTH 205 or permission of the instructor.
