This course will examine classic as well as modern novels and short stories of authors such as Charlotte Bronte, Nathaniel Hawthorne, George Bernanos, Flannery O'Connor, and Joseph Conrad. Themes discussed will include the conflict between a religiously minded culture and one based on logicalpositivism. The students will learn to write a thoughtful paper on the literature and will be guided through the research and draft-writing phases as well as the proper method of referencing.
