While a variety of background topics will be covered, including the United States' historical relationship with Iraq, Operation "Desert Storm," and the impact of 9/11 on U.S. policty toward the Middle East, emphasis will be placed on the more immediate build-up to the 2003 war, the execution of that war, and the challenges that face the Iraqi state.
