Marine pollution is a problem that degrades habitat and exacerbates all other anthropogenic impacts to the marine environment. Using a case-study approach, this course explores 1) major types of marine pollution 2) the dynamics of specific classes of contaminants, 3) principles that influence toxicity of contaminants in major marine phyla, 3) diversity of metabolic and clearance mechanisms, and 4) impacts at the community and ecosystem levels. Pre: Enrollment in Marine and Enviornmental Science Graduate Program, or permission of instructor.
