This course examines the development of the Atlantic World from the mid fifteenth through the early nineteenth centuries. We will examine how the Atlantic acted as a powerful connective force, uniting diverse peoples through economic, intellectual, cultural, and ecological systems and promoting the interchange of ideas, people, and technology. The course will take a thematic, systems approach by examining topics such as colonization, migration, slavery, mercantile capitalism, imperialism, and revolution as they manifested themselves in this Atlantic world. Pre: WRI 1200 or HIST 2900.
