The goal of the seminar is to study the role of the U.S. Supreme Court as a means of change and conservation, both legal and social, in the 20th and 21st centuries. The course addresses selected 14th Amendment due process and equal protection cases and doctrines, using both primary and secondary materials, in order to evaluate the legal and political strengths and weaknesses of the court as a means of change and conservation.
