Study of medieval European literary forms (lyric, epic, romance, allegory, and dream vision) through analysis of major works such as Beowulf, Chretien de Troyes' poems, Marie de France'slais, The Romance of the Rose, The Divine Comedy, The Decameron, Piers Plowman, Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, The Book of the City of Ladies, and Malory's prose.
