Prerequisite: Music 246A/B, Music 294, Music 296, participation in a jazz ensemble and jazz combo, Music 401. Recommended that Music 301, 302, 303 be completed or taken concurrently. Students are lead through investigations into socio-political situations, stylistic avenues, biographical sketches, relative art forms, and other pertinent topics associated with jazz. Students present projects and complete assignments in form and analysis. Four exploratory exercises are required testing the students initiative, and a research paper is required.
