Description:
Prerequisite: Audition for placement. It is highly recommened that students take Music 246A and B. The small jazz ensemble or combo is the medium that carries the core curriculum of jazz education. Combo participation provides solo improvisation, style application, and a link to the jazz heritage beyond any other ensemble. The democracy and soul requisite for this type of communication brings a remarkable kinship indicative of true music making. The Jazz Combo enrollment includes 5-8 chamber groups that meet twice weekly for rehearsal, once with a coach and once without, and one time per week as part of the Jazz Master Class.
