This course traces the development of scientific thought from its earliest beginnings in ancient history to modern times. The use of the scientific method in the development of theories will be illustrated for a variety of topics. Topics covered include atomic theory, medicine, evolution, origin of the universe, and genetic theory. The contributions to these areas from a variety of cultures including Egypt, Greco-Roman, Islam, and China, as well as the contributions of European and American scientists. Offered every other Spring semester.
