This course is an introduction to the teaching profession and is designed to familiarize prospective teachers with the work of the K-12 teacher. The content of the course provides students with a comprehensive examination of three main factors that affect the work of the teacher: (1) students and the social issues they bring with them to schools, (2) curriculum and instruction, and (3) organizational structures, governance and the law. Students will explore their own interests in the field of education by relating it to their personal histories and philosophies. Field experiences introduce students to a range of educational levels, a variety of multi-cultural and socio-economic settings, and diverse student bodies.
