This course offers a brief glimpse into the lives and histories of women in the modern Western world. Students will read writings by and about women, paying particular attention to depictions of women in pop culture, biology vs. gender, and cultural otherness. Throughout the semester, special attention will be given to understanding the development of the women's movement, the rich and varied experiences of women from different ethnic backgrounds, and personal reflection on our own experiences and histories.
