This course presents the basic issues of counseling in a wilderness setting with its limitations and potentials. Students will be introduced to therapeutic counseling models: Reality Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and a trans-theoretical model for wilderness-based counseling. The course is a combination of theory, application and practice in which the students will be introduced to the philosophy and concepts of counseling in a wilderness setting as well as developing skills in each of the specific models mentioned above.
