The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to current topics and issues in the field of sport and sport management. The course provides the student with an in-depth look at and analysis of many of the current issues facing the sports industry as well as issues encountered by managers of sports organizations. The course will help the student apply sport management techniques to effectively address current issues and problems. The course is designed to be an interactive discussion with the students being responsible for presenting and researching the current material. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills will be fostered during the course. Topics include gender equity, racial issues, National Collegiate Athletic Association rules, franchise relocations, sport agency, and athlete conduct issues.
