3 s.h. This class will study the stories of various forms of the archetypal Wild Woman, including witches, whores, saints, mothers, teachers, green women, healers, warriors, poets and madwomen. Examination will focus on their qualities and functions and what happens to them if they push the boundaries of accepted and expected female behavior. This course will cover books, short handouts, fairy tales, films, and videos. Exploration of the question of the role, function, and reception of strong women will also include analysis of music videos. This course is designed to facilitate the development of critical thinking and expression of that thought, either through discussion or writing. Process Writing will be taught throughout the semester. Prerequisites: Passing college writing exam, SoS and 3 s.h. Humanities (or permission from instructor). ( LA, WS2)
