3 s.h. This course examines value dilemmas encountered by criminal justice practitioners: discretion, deception, deadly force, punishment, and social. It is designed to increase awareness, understanding, and exploration of ethical and policy issues in criminal justice as well as ethical dilemmas encountered by professionals in the field. The focus will be on the relevance of ethical theory to policy analysis. There will be a comprehensive examination of unethical practices as well as the mechanisms that sustain them. Prerequisites: SOCL 100; SOCL 175.
