1 s.h. This course is designed to give students some understanding of the role of engineering in today's society, and of engineering as a professional career. Some specific topics will be: the development of engineering and its historic contributions to society; modern engineering topics; skills needed by engineers; similarities and differences between science and engineering. Skills such as spatial relations and sketching will be developed. Basic computer skills (word processing and other communications uses) and mathematical skills will be reviewed. Technical writing will be introduced. In addition, there will be frequent discussion of the challenges facing first-year students in the 3-2 engineering program. Recommended for all physics majors and first-year students interested in the 3-2 engineering program. Prerequisite: PHYS 203 or concurrent.
