This class analyzes the great changes that took place in Western European society during the late thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth centuries: the social and economic impact of the devastating Black Death, the challenge to medieval kingship, the intellectual and artistic developments which constituted what we call the Renaissance, the ideas and movements which characterized an age of religious diversification and challenge, and the development of powerful nation-states such as England, France and Castile.
