Studies the effects of ionizing radiation on the body at the molecular, cellular, tissue, and organ levels. Includes genetic and somatic effects as well as degrees of acute radiation lethality. Encompasses principles of protection for both patient and personnel, including health and safety regulations in such areas as protective equipment and personnel and area monitoring.
