An in-depth study of the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of stresses and hazards arising in or from the workplace that may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers or citizens of the community. Recognition of stresses in the form of such chemical hazards as dusts, fumes, gases, vapors, or mists, or physical hazards including noise, radiation, temperature extremes, vibration, and pressure.
