Independent study of a specific topic of interest to the student in the area of counseling under the guidance of a departmental faculty member. A detailed study proposal must be submitted for approval. Prerequisite: Approval of the faculty member and the department chairperson. course for students expressing an interest in the field of social work. The course selectively traces the development of social work from early volunteer efforts to the present organizations in social welfare. The emergence, development and changing nature of social needs and services are selectively analyzed. The course also introduces students to the development of social work practice as a professional and to the various fields of social work practice and career opportunities.
