This course is an introduction to basic drawing materials, practices, and concepts. The class will focus on the process of perception in particular as a means to achieve a successful drawing. Various techniques of using graphite, pen, and conte crayon will be demonstrated, and the use of line, value shading, and composition will be constantly emphasized and practiced, using assorted classroom and outdoor arrangements as a basis for study. Students who successfully complete the course should be able to use contour line, value shading, gesture, and other techniques to accurately represent what they see.
