The history of Christianity from its medieval hegemony over Europe to the slaughter caused by the religiously and economically motivated Thirty Years War in the 17th-century. With respect to theological developments, the course examines the transformation of Christian theology set in motion by Aquinas, which resulted in the crumbling of the Augustinian theological dominance and eventually in the fragmentation of Christendom with the rise of Protestantism.
