Scientific methodology, experimental design, computer analyses, and inferential statistics appropriate to the field of psychology. Techniques for reviewing relevant research literature, writing a research proposal, and organizing and writing a paper in APA style are covered. Methodologies discussed include non-experimental and experimental research approaches, such as case studies, surveys, observational studies, correlational studies, and factorial designs. An emphasis on ethical issues in research and threats to validity is included. Sampling theory, hypothesis testing, and parametric statistics are covered. Course includes a significant computer component appropriate to analyzing and presenting research findings in the behavioral sciences and related fields. Prerequisites: PSYC 201 and 300 and completion of 3 additional hours in Psychology.
