This course studies the mother/child relationship within a focused comparison between two cultures as depicted in memoir, myth, fiction, and the literature of biology and anthropology. Students explore ideologies of motherhood and their pervasive effect on actual mother/child relationships and undertake a research and activism project that relates that institution of motherhood to social policy. Prerequisite(s): WST 101S and second year standing, or permission of instructor. Every other year. . (Placed on the Inactive Course List Fall 2009). Credit: 4
