This course explores ideas about the origins and meaning of categories of sexual orientation and their relation to gender. Views from the arts, humanities, social sciences and biological sciences will be included, including analyses of the visual, written and verbal rhetoric of resistance to mainstream formulations of sexuality and gender. Students will encounter representations of gender and sexuality in our own and other cultures. Prerequisites: WST 101S or permission of instructor. (Pass/Fail option) Variable. Credit: 4
