This course is an overview of the history of Latin American culture and literature. It offers an introduction to the political and social reality of Latin America by studying the culture and literature of different time periods. It provides a critical analysis through a theoretical perspective. It strongly emphasizes writing and introduces students into researching and developing essay topics of their own choice. It will also emphasize oral communication through informal discussion and oral presentations of assigned materials. Prerequisite(s): SPA 202H or permission of instructor. (Pass/Fail option) At least once in a three-year cycle. Credit: 4
