An introduction to the ideas that led to the revolution in scientific thinking of the early 20th century. These consist primarily of Einstein's discovery of the principle of the relativity and the development of quantum mechanics. These two topics are covered in some detail including development of the mathematical tools that enable the student to understand and solve quantitative problems. A laboratory component to the course allows for experimental observation and verification of some of the phenomena covered in the course. PHY 142 and MAT 142. Every two years. Credit: 4
