This course is designed to introduce students to political theory that underpins contemporary debates on the relationship between economic and political development. Students will read and discuss a variety of writings by political philosophers and theorists dating from 19th century classical Liberalism to the current debate over globalization in the 21st century. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on competing conceptions of economic and political development as well as the relationship between them, including the 'chicken and egg' question of which comes must first economic or political development (Pass/Fail option) Every two years.
