The composition of songs for the voice, with or without instrumental accompaniment. Through the study of songs from Schubert to Gershwin to the Beatles and beyond, students will gain insight into the principles of setting lyrics, constructing melodies, and writing accompaniments, while composing songs of their own. Ideally, all songs will be performed. Prerequisite(s): MUS 201 or permission of instructor. Once a year. Credit: 4
