This course examines the history of labor in the United States from 1865 to the present. Students will explore the history of American workers and the unions they organized, studying how economic, political, and social changes influenced the labor movement's development. The course also seeks to examine the daily lives of workers. It will consider the changing nature of work and the cultures of the workplace which laborers created. In addressing these topics, special attention will be paid to the way that issues of race, gender and ethnicity shaped the development of labor and the American working class. Once every three years.
