This course covers the creation, flourishing and collapse of the Soviet Union, from 1917 to 1991. Topics include Vladimir Lenin and the Bolshevik party, the Russian Revolution of 1917, collectivization, industrialization, and mass terror under Iosef Stalin; World War II and the Cold War; Krushchev, Brezhnev and the failure of the USSR to reform; Mikhail Gorbachev and perestroika, and the collapse of the USSR in 1991.
