Description:
These courses take the student into an extensive study of the accents and dialects most often used on the English-speaking stage. The course begins with a review of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), introduces different options for achieving accents, introduces accent analysis systems, and culminates with a comprehensive study of the accents of the British Isles (typically, Standard British, Irish, Cockney, and West Country). During the spring semester students continue the work of Voice VII. In addition, the course explores Scottish and Welsh and introduces a variety of international accents (typically, Italian, French, German, and Russian). Prerequisites: HTA 305, 310, and 321.
