Introduction to geodetic and cartographic principles underlying the creation of accurate maps. Topi cs include horizontal and vertical geodetic data, map projections, and coordinate systems. GIS data modeling using vector and raster displays is explored. Both hypothetical and actual case studies of the use of GIS to solve broadly selected problems are discussed. Microcomputerbased GIS software is introduced through laboratory exercises and used in the problem solution process. Prerequisite: General knowledge of geometry, trigonometry, and personal computers. Laboratory fee.
