PQ: Third- or fourth-year standing. This course examines the major trends in French intellectual and literary life between 1900 and 1930, in relation to the social and political environment. We consider the influence of thinkers like Durkheim, Bergson, and Benda; examine the impact on the affaire Dreyfus; and read works by Barrès, Proust, Péguy, Gide, Alain, and Breton.
