This course investigates how the economy and elections interact with each other in theory and practice. The course begins by asking two central questions-how elections affect the economy and how the economy affects election outcomes-in light of a political economy perspective. Students learn how economic conditions affec t voters ' choices in elections and how the expectations of these effects lead politicians to certain policy choices. We further explore how different electoral institutions shape different economic outcomes by looking at their differential effects on the choices of voters, politicians, and economic actor s. J.
