RLLT 27700 /37700 - Historia y Memoria

Institution:
University of Chicago
Subject:
Description:
This seminar examines the historical and cultural significance of the Spanish transition from dictatorship to democracy in the 1970s and 1980s. Our focus is on the literary production associated with the narrating of that historical process. We analyze the role of fiction in the representation and commemoration of past events by discussing texts considered as representatives of various modes of historical fiction (i.e., historical novel, historiographical metafiction, novel of memory) to explore both the poetics and the politics of these narratives.
