This course begins with an examination of the rise of Nazism in Germany in the 1930s. We then discuss the history of the Nazi imperialism, conquest, and occupation in Europe during the World War II, with our focus equally on Eastern and Western Europe. Topics include the Holocaust, Germanization, population policies, collaboration and resistance in daily life, economic plunder, gender and the family, and postwar retribution and ethnic cleansing .
